it's been a while

OK, so it's been 4 months since I've updated this thing.  It happens.   Morgan was changing her layout around so I got excited and did mine, too.  And of course, instead of doing something useful like going to sleep at a reasonable hour, I decided it was time to update this guy.

So here you go, what's been going on in my life since my last post (briefly and through cellphone pictures, since I haven't been keeping up with my goal of using my real cameras more):

done

I'm sure no one really reads this thing, but I'm going to keep updating it anyways.  Since my last post, I've basically been putting in 60 hour weeks at school so I could actually get all of my work done (hence no updates).  It's been really intense, and nothing like what I was used to at RPI--who am I kidding, I barely did any work there.  Anyways.... I'm done! Free! No more work!  Well, at least until I get back from my trip home; when I get back, I'm going to be focusing on research and won't have any class to deal with until October.  And even then, it will only be one class.  What I'm trying to say here is that I will never have to deal with a shit ton of class or class-related stress lumped into one quarter again.  It's glorious.

What this also means is that I'll finally be updating this more regularly, and actually putting an honest effort into completing things on my list.  I'm admittedly not going to be accomplishing much in the next 3 days considering I'm flying home Wednesday (and I don't want to commit to something and then peace out for 2 weeks), but I'm really looking forward to getting my shit together this summer.  I'll definitely be: starting a garden, taking more pictures, biking more, traveling, making music, brewing beer, fixing my old scooter, doing some serious cooking, getting tattooed... the list goes on.  And I'm going to do my best to document it all, too! So keep checking this silly blog out!  Well, beginning in July when I get back here and start updating again.

Can't wait to be home for a few weeks and see everyone.  I've been getting pretty homesick (I'm sure the stress from school didn't help), and this is going to be so good.  Everyone needs to be at the birthday weekend party in Hartford.

Oh, that reminds me!  The following Saturday, June 26th, party at my house in Clinton!  My mom is getting it all together, so that means that there will basically be endless amounts of booze and food flowing, so really you don't have an excuse not to come.  We can all pass out in my bedroom, or set up the big 10 person tent like the good old days.

I'll leave you with a song that helped me get through many late nights of work this month:

welp

True to form I've already gotten lazy with this thing, and I'll probably only be updating intermittently until the summer. School has seriously ramped up and I've been flooded with coursework, which is only going to get worse until I'm all done for this quarter--which, gloriously enough, is my last quarter of heavy coursework.  After that I get to finally focus on research and for once not feel like I'm stuck in college anymore.

Anyways, for some brief updates in the life of gan.  A few weekends ago we went to this bar called Noble Experiment, which is hidden inside another restaurant behind a secret wall of kegs, Speakesy-style.  Definitely at the ultra-hip end of the spectrum, but it was pretty cool to go in and check out.  Everyone got all snazzed up in their Sunday's best, and the drinks were fantastic.  Here are some pics lol:

It's me and Diego! And a wall covered in golden skulls!

And our tasty beverages! I wish I remembered all of the names.  The two on the bottom right are improved whiskeys, which is whiskey and absinthe and a few other kicks.  I had a bourbon with orange bitters and brown sugar, there was a gin/artichoke combo.  All very strange and delicious.  All of these pictures are on facebook already but whatever, you can deal with it. Also...

Shea visited! She was at the Noble Experiment with us, too, but she didn't make the cut for the pictures. Hah.  We did all sorts of wonderful stuff, it was a good time.

OK, I really shouldn't be posting to this thing right now.  I have way too much work to do, I'm just trying to procrastinate.  I am seriously getting homesick and I can't wait to be home in a month and see everyone.  And eat giant deli sandwiches and Chinese food (you can't get those out here).  And drink glorious beer (you can get that out here, but not glorious northeast beer).  I will leave you guys with a song I've been listening to a lot:

Neva Dinova - Supercomputer

Oh, also, giant party in Hartford at the new house of Allison/Puff/Huddy over the weekend of June 18-20.  I expect to see everyone there. Grilling, tubing, drinking, dancing.  You name it.  I'm pumped.

Headway

I should really be doing work right now, but I have no desire.  So instead, I figured it was about time I updated this thing, even though I don't have any exciting news really.  The only thing that I've actually knocked off of my list since last Monday was developing my own film, but I listed it as '66.    Develop my own film and make my own prints'.  So it's only a half, really, since I haven't done any printing.  Anyways, check it out:

Just a shot from my phone's camera, but you get the drift.  I was actually surprised the film even developed, I thought for sure I'd ruin it.  I did end up scratching it a bit, but it seemed like I only really hurt the pictures that I didn't like as much.  Oh well, we'll see what's up when I get around to printing!

I have a few videos of myself doing some covers of songs, but they're pretty bad so I think I'm going to hold onto those, lolz.  Actually, the main reason is that they're upside-down, since my laptop's webcam is strange, and I don't have any video editing software to fix it up.  Really I'm just being lazy, but maybe I'll post one next time.  Instead, I'm going to leave you with a dashing picture of Jesse Cline that was from the roll of film I had developed last time I posted:

101 - 1 = 100

While these pictures were taken before I started this list yesterday, I did finally develop them today and I feel like posting a few anyways.  I think it counts.  Also, I made a guitar slide today along with a few mugs from the rest of the wine bottles, pretty relaxing way to spend an afternoon.

This is a shot of a sunset in Pacific Beach, a little south of the pier.  I'm a sucker for sunsets, and I'm really loving the film feel.  It's trickier and more expensive, but holding the pictures in your hand the first time you see them has a really satisfying novelty to it.  I need to find an accessible dark room around here but the only one I could think of, which would presumably be affiliated with the UCSD photography club, apparently doesn't really exist because the photo club here is full of people with point and shoot cameras.

Quintessential garage shot, taken when Shela and Jesse visited.  Miss you guys!  This picture is very typical, although the Cutlass has since been sold off and hopefully is enjoying a new life of, well, actually living.

I have a bunch more pictures (read: 22, considering these came from the same roll of film...) that I'll probably post as filler when I'm not completing any goals.  I'll post some shots of my guitar slide and mugs when I get a good picture of them.  I'd do it now, but alas, I'm drunk again and apparently not making any progress on #32.  Oops.  Also, this capitalization and syntax tomfoolery will probably be gone within the next few weeks as I'm sure I'll be getting very lazy about.  I know, it's suchhhh an interesting point, but you're the one reading my blog SO DEAL WITH IT

what?

So, I decided to make this blog based on the challenge to do '101 things in 1001 days' (the idea of which I stole from Shea--THANKS LOL). Basically, you make a list of 101 things you'd like to accomplish within 1001 days. It's very complicated. Typically I'd keep something like this to myself, but I listed a few things that I'd like to publish throughout the next few years (photographs, songs, etc.), so I thought it'd be fitting to BLOG ABOUT IT. Anyways, the first step; here's the list:

ohhhhh nelly

THE CUTLASS DOING SOME MODELING LOLS

also, the first suggestion for labeling this post is 'scooters'. haha.
